Coaches
Coach Shaw grew up in South Jordan Utah where he graduated from Bingham High in 2006. After serving a mission for his church he continued his education and received his bachelors degree in Social Work from Utah Valley University and a masters degree from the University of Utah. He is currently in his 10th year of working at Jordan High as a school social worker.
Athletic
Coach Shaw ran track and cross country at Bingham High and enjoyed the competitiveness of the 800 meter race. He started coaching for the salt lake county track and cross country program and in 2011 and then started coaching cross country and track at Herriman High School. In 6 years of coaching at Herriman he was part of helping them win 3 State Championships (Boys XC 2012 and Girls Track and Field 2013 & 2016). This is his 7th year coaching at Jordan High and he loves coaching here. We were able to win our first Region XC title at Jordan in 2023, the first xc boys region title since 2004! Coach Shaw enjoys competing and running to improve mental and physical health. His favorite race is the St. George Marathon and his goal is to run the Boston Marathon. Coach Shaw loves helping others improve their lives and knows that running can be a crucial part of the overall well-being of individuals.
Coach Yates grew up in southern California and graduated from Great Oak High School in 2016. She then went to the University of Texas in Austin for a year before transferring to the University of Utah where she graduated in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Math. She has been a high school math teacher since 2020 but just completed her first year teaching at Jordan High School.
Coach Yates is married and has two girls, Ivy (4) and Austin (almost 2).
Athletic
Coach Yates ran cross country and track all four years of high school. She went on to run NCAA Division 1 cross country and track at the University of Texas in Austin (Hook ‘em!). This is her first year as a head coach and she is excited to get involved! Coach Yates is bringing her competitive spirit to Jordan XC hoping to continue growing the program and helping kids be successful student-athletes.
